Diversity

The School in Rose Valley believes in multicultural education, celebrating our differences while building a community of inclusion and acceptance. We recognize that diversity has many dimensions including gender, race, class, culture, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age and ability. SRV is committed to supporting a diverse community of students, families and staff through its curriculum, professional development, financial resources and outreach efforts.

The school has a Diversity Committee whose aim it is to collaborate on annual goals and objectives and to provide opportunities for parent education around diversity issues, among other things. The Chair of our Diversity Committee is Sheryl Litwack.

The School in Rose Valley uses National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) guidelines in polling its families to determine the ethnicity of students in order to determine what percentage of students of color are enrolled at SRV in a given year. For the past several years, SRV has enrolled an average of approximately 23% students of color.

The Southern Poverty Law Center has a web based project offering parents tips, advice and articles about raising tolerant, aware and multiculturally sensitive children. Visit their website for more information.
