The School in Rose Valley seeks a strong, creative, and sincere leader to build on our success as a model of progressive education and help us to meet the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and respect for the school's core progressive values and an ability to interact with diverse constituencies with integrity and insight. The Head of School plays a pivotal role in the integration, development, and sustainability of the school. Excellent organizational leadership skills, a proven record of outstanding program and fiscal management, and expertise in advancing a rigorous, well-articulated curriculum that embodies current research and best practices in progressive education are essential. In addition, the Head of School will be responsible for growing the institution by increasing visibility and cultivating fundraising opportunities.

Founded in 1929, The School in Rose Valley offers a strikingly different model of how young children should be educated. Emphasizing hands-on experience and connection to nature, Rose Valley's preschool through sixth grade program fosters independence, creativity, and deep commitment to community. The School in Rose Valley experience is both nurturing and rigorous – students are prepared for future academic success, meaningful relationships, and active citizenship in our rapidly evolving world.

Requirements:

  • A demonstrated understanding of independent schools and progressive education through his/her own experience as a teacher and an administrator.
  • A belief in SRV's philosophy and core values and the ability to communicate its mission both internally and externally.
  • Commitment to 21st century program and curriculum development.
  • Proven record of outstanding leadership.
  • Financial management experience.
  • High level of integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work well with multiple and diverse constituencies.
  • Ability to motivate, evaluate, and retain an outstanding teaching and administrative staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals and implement a strategic plan.
  • Advanced degree in education strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in fund raising and willingness to actively participate.
