About the School Calendar
Dear Parents,
As we plan the school calendar each year, we consider many different factors in determining when to schedule days off and special school events.
In support of working parents, we always try to schedule our days off, Staff Development Days and Conference Days to occur as much as possible when parents are likely to have days off of work. We also try to provide childcare on non-school days.
We also try, as much as possible, to recognize the different religious and cultural needs of our diverse community when we plan school events. For example, each year a few of our weekend events are held on Sundays rather than Saturdays, so that families who observe the Sabbath on Saturdays may attend. Of course we cannot always meet every family's needs, because some conflict. Our goal is to strike a balance and to be as fair as possible.
Because the SRV community is so diverse, we may be ignorant of some of the particular celebrations and holidays that some of our families observe. We invite you to look at next year's calendar, and to let someone in the administration know if you see a conflict with a major religious or cultural holiday that your family observes. We may not be able to make a change, since one change usually triggers others, but we would like to have as much information as possible when making these decisions.
We all benefit from the rich diversity that each of us brings to the SRV community. Thank you, in advance, for helping us honor that diversity and for modeling for the children what it means to be truly inclusive.
In partnership,
Lauren de Moll
