Seasons
March is such a fickle month. One day it is short sleeves and baseball, the other boots and sledding. The poor snowdrops and birds don't know what to do.
Seasons are important markers in the life of Rose Valley. We celebrate the fall with Apple day, the winter with candle making, spring with May Fair, and the summer with the bead ceremony.

We have a tradition of celebrating the first real warm day of the year with what we call, "The Day", for lack of a better name. Itis the day that kids shed their jackets, start digging in the thawed out sandboxes, and muck around in the thick and gooey mud. It's when the dance swords come out of storage and the children start to get that outside itch. It's the day that a hum starts to build and hopes start to rise that this might really be the beginning of spring. The thermometer miraculously hits 69 degrees and the rumors and buzz start …should this be, "The Day"?
This year "the day" hit early; recess was extended and Bridget went to the store and bought all of the Popsicles. Rituals like this are so important. They are symbolic acts that help ground and celebrate our community life. They give us a shared history… "Remember the day we get to play for a longtime and have Popsicles?" It lets children know that we are a school that celebrates the outdoors, play and the importance of having fun together.
