Dear Friends,
I am pleased to write to you via The School in Rose Valley’s first online electronic newsletter. As technology develops in the 21st Century, so does the opportunity for connectedness with those who have meant so much to us and to the world community at large. As we strive to better communicate with our alumni, parents and friends, we hope this vehicle provides a snapshot of our campus, our achievements, our happenings and, most importantly, our children’s discoveries. Look for an issue of Coming Together each quarter.
In partnership,
Carlye Nelson-Major, Principal

Quarterly Glimpse Into A Group
Primary Circle has been studying opera this year. To augment that study, they recently had a visit from Swarthmore College Music Professor and composer Tom Whitman and his librettist, who spoke with the children about opera. They showed the children that opera can be written now (not just centuries ago), and in English, and made opera 'real' for the students.

Campus Corner
An indoor traverse rock-climbing wall has been installed in Grace. Children are natural climbers and wall climbing gives them a wonderful outlet for this innate desire. Climbing also helps students build physical confidence while promoting physical fitness. Rock climbing fosters cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility and coordination and develops essential skills like problem solving, goal setting, perseverance and patience.
From The Archives
Shop has always been an integral part of learning at SRV. It is amazing how students, regardless of age or timeframe, discover so much more than just how to hammer or what a socket wrench is when they create with their own hands!
"The shop room is cool. It is all made out of wood. It was all made by the shop teacher - the tables and all." Lior, current SRV 3rd grader

Investing in SRV’s Future
Every wonderful experience at SRV, in our classrooms, on our field trips, outside on the playground, is made possible by the generous dedication of alumni, parents and friends who annually invest in SRV’s mission. Tuition does not begin to cover the cost of providing a student’s education. In order to ensure tuition costs do not encumber families from attending SRV, we rely on various outside resources. There are many ways to become fiscally involved in the School’s success.
- Unrestricted giving to our annual fund
- Participating in our annual fundraising event, High Spirits
- Underwriting a special program – field trips, campus visitors, and much more
- Providing goods or services for campus use or improvement
