COD - Fish or SRV Committee?
by Adam Marcus, Board Member
and dad of Haley and Molly
Going on my third year as the Chairperson for the Committee on Directors (or "COD" as it affectionately known) I have come to realize how few of the members of the SRV community are aware of the committee and its purpose. One reason for this lack of infamy rests with the unique set of responsibilities of the Committee. These are: orientation of new board members; board education; cultivation of new board members; facilitation of the board nomination and election processes; supporting board committees; and facilitation of the board evaluation process.
Although I have come to appreciate the importance of each of the COD's responsibilities, I believe the most significant role is the cultivation and nomination of new board members. This process has no particular start date, but rather is an ongoing process that often reflects the efforts of the COD in prior years. Each year, the COD works with the Board in strategically looking at board priorities for the near and far future and the current board makeup. With this information the COD attempts to determine what strengths and skills sets would help the Board in achieving its goals. The COD looks for prospective board members from within board committees. It also looks for potential candidates with a passion for the school and its mission and with a desire to be actively involved with its governance. If you are interested in learning more about the COD or wish to nominate someone for consideration to the Board, I encourage you to email me at adam@marcushoffman.com.
