Listserv Guidelines and Sign-Up Form
Guidelines and How-To for The Parent Community Organization Listserv
Welcome to The School in Rose Valley. Our small community is close-knit and there are many opportunities to communicate. One tool is the Parent Community Organization (PCO) Listserv. The listserv includes the parents, staff, board members, and some alumni and friends of SRV. Although participation in the listserv is optional, parents are finding it an increasingly important tool for getting in touch with each other. The school office, individual staff members, and individual parents often post messages on the listserv, but announcements are also in the bi-monthly school newsletter, The Freep, are posted on the web site, and often come home in the form of mail in your child's backpack. If you would like to be on the PCO listserv, please read the guidelines below and provide us with the email address or addresses you would like us to put on the listserv.
How do I send a message to SRV parents and staff?
First, read these guidelines and if you decide to participate, complete the fields below and then submit this form. Wait approximately one week (at most) to receive confirmation via email that you are a member. Once you are a member, you may use the listserv anytime to send an announcement, etc. by simply typing in srv@theschoolinrosevalley.org in the 'To' line of your email.
What kinds of things are appropriate for posting to the listserv?
- Announcements of general interest to the community
- Thoughts or ideas that you would like to discuss with other SRV community members
- Questions about parenting issues, education, SRV traditions...
- Calls for help ("Jodie needs two parents to help with..." "The Science room needs...")
What kinds of things are not appropriate for posting to the listserv?
- Announcements or opinions of a political or religious nature
- Negative comments about specific community members (known as "flaming.")
Remember that putting something on the listserv is equivalent to standing before the entire community and saying it aloud. Be sensitive to the impact of your words.
What happens if I answer a listserv message by hitting "Reply"?
Your reply will go only to the person who sent the original message. If you wish to reply publicly to the list, be sure to change the address to SRV@theschoolinrosevalley.org . The list is set up this way because it's preferable to say something privately that you meant to say publicly (easily corrected) than to say something publicly that you meant to say privately (not always so easily corrected.)
How can I tell when an e-mail message came from the listserv?
Each list message will have [SRV] at the beginning of the subject line.
I have a question about using the listserv...
Please contact Deborah Fineberg at define@comcast.net .
I don't check my e-mail very often, but I'd like to be able to read listserv messages.
If you check your mail infrequently, it makes the most sense for you to receive your listserv messages in "digest" form (messages will be sent in one bundle when a batch accumulates or at the end of each day, whichever comes first.) You can select this option by clicking on the link that appears at the bottom of each list message, logging into your account, and selecting "On" in the box that says "Set Digest Mode." (If you ever need help changing your settings, please contact Deborah Fineberg define@comcast.net .)
I prefer not to be on the listserv.
You can unsubscribe yourself by going to the address at the bottom of each message, or contact Deborah at the address above and ask her to remove you from the list.
**Repeated violation of list guidelines will result in the loss of posting privileges.**
