Main Circle
Partnership with FACTS charter school
This year, the Main Circle is participating in a partnership with seventh grade and ESL students from the Folk Arts and Cultural Treasures (FACTS) charter school located in Chinatown. Many, but not all, of the FACTS students are recent immigrants from Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The partnership focuses primarily on an exchange of cultural celebrations and traditions, and offers students from both schools the chance to get to know, become friends with, and learn with children from other schools, cultures, ethnicities, and nationalities. So far this year, students from both schools have exchanged letters and essays about important school-wide celebrations. SRV students shared about our traditional October Apple Day celebration while the students from FACTS sent letters about the Mid-Autumn Festival, which takes place every September in Chinatown. The Main Circle just hosted the FACTS students here at SRV in our first get-together of the year. The students played a great get-to-know you game, interviewed each other, baked apple treats in honor of Apple Day, ate lunch, and played together outside. It was a fabulous day for everyone! We are all looking forward to our next visit, which will take place at FACTS in February.
