The Extended Day programs at The School in Rose Valley are designed to help working families and to provide fun, safe and educational places for children to be when school is closed and they cannot be at home.
On school days, SRV classrooms are opened at 8:10 and school begins at 8:15. Preday is open from 7:30 to 8:10 for children who arrive at school early, either because they have to be dropped off by a parent or because their buses arrive early. Preday is held in the playground on most days, and in the school library in inclement weather. During Preday children may read, chat or play, and are supervised by an experienced teacher.
The Afternoons program is open from 3:00 to 6:00 PM on all school days. The Afternoons Program takes place in the foyer and gym space in the Grace Rotzel Center, as well as outdoors.
At Afternoons, the children are given a healthy snack. Since they have been in school all day, the program primarily offers free play in a relaxed family atmosphere. Whenever the weather permits, the children play outdoors. Otherwise, they play in the gym. Sometimes the teachers offer special projects and activities in the Art Room.
During some vacation days, and all Parent Conference and Staff Development Days, SRV provides care at school. This program is open to enrolled students and their SRV school-age siblings.
Vacation Day teachers provide lots of time for indoor and outdoor free play. They also usually offer a few special activities such as cooking and art projects, crafts, etc.
Families are charged a modest fee for the children to attend by the half or full day. During Parent Conference Days, the program is free for children attending for up to two hours while their parents are in conferences.
