SRV participates as an entire school in two charitable drives each year: a food drive for Philabundance connected to Apple Day and a book drive for Reach-Out-And-Read connected to our Book Fair. Our approach to these charitable efforts is one that stresses fairness and the habit of sharing. As we celebrate our abundance in a traditional fall harvest festival, we make a point of redistributing some food in our community "to make the world more fair." As we buy beautiful new books for our children and loved ones at the Book Fair, we remember to donate some beautiful books for families who don't have as many. Starting at an early age, we work to make children aware of the inequities of our society and rather than inducing a feeling of guilt or sorrow, we hope to inspire a passion for justice and a willingness to act, even in small ways.
