Spotlight on . . . PARENT COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION
by Debbie Krull, PCO Chair & Board Member
The next PCO meeting will be held March 22, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:30. Please note this is a change in date and time from what was originally scheduled. Babysitting will be provided. Please call Kathy in the office if you are bringing your child.
It will be a busy evening with two interesting topics! The first is Three Shades of Green: Sustainability, Ecoliteracy and The "Living Campus." Eric Tamulonis (parent of Dan, Main Circle) will describe how these trends are having an increasingly large effect on planning our community's educational and surprisingly even corporate environments. The talk will describe the origins of these trends, how they are being applied to other educational environments and communities nearby and across the nation, and how these trends could affect SRV.
The second topic is Kids and Computers: A Discussion of the Appropriate Uses of Technology in Our Homes and Classrooms. The evening will include a presentation of the research findings on children and computers by Deborah Fineberg (parent of Willie, Primary Circle), a graduate student in psychology. It will also include a discussion of what we know, hope, fear, and love about the presence of technology in our own and our children's lives. Bridget O'Brian, SRV's computers teacher, will bring the classroom perspective.
