Spotlight on . . . Library

by Kate McCarron

Making new trails @ your library! As you may have heard, our all school theme this year is “Expeditions.” Your children have been embarking on some mini expeditions and are beginning studies of expeditions across subject matters. It is an exciting theme with tons of possibilities!

Stop in the library for a number of books about expeditions and journeys:
• Anno’s U.S.A. by Anno, Mitsumasa
• Dandelions by Eve Bunting
• Grandfather’s Journey by Allen Say
• Sir Francis Drake: His Daring Deeds by Roy Gerrard
• Lewis and Clark and Me: A Dog’s Tale by Laurie Meyers

For a fictional account of travelers, expeditions and journeys, try:
• A Journey to the New World: The Diary of Remember Patience Whipple by Kathryn Lasky
• Midnight Hour Encores by Bruce Brooks
• Park’s Quest by Katherine Paterson
• The Sketchbook of Thomas Blue Eagle by Gay Matthaei
• Whistle for the Crossing by Marguerite DeAngeli

For students who want a non-fictional account, we have many biographies and historical nonfiction such as:
• Meriwether Lewis, Boy Explorer by Charlotta Bebenroth
• Sacagawea, Indian Guide by Wyatt Blasingame
• Dragon Bones and Dinosaur Eggs: A Photobiography of Explorer Roy Chapman Andrews by Ann Bausum
• Trapped by the Ice!: Shackleton’s Amazing Antarctic Adventure by Michael McCurdy
• Traveling Man: The Journey of Ibn Battuta, 1325- 1354 by James Rumford

Whatever your interest, stop in the library and we can find a book to match it. Look for me, Kate, in the mornings or Robin Lasersohn in the afternoons.
