Spotlight on . . . SRV Chorus
If you've been hearing strains of music containing references to a giant picnic to which all the countries of the world have been invited, or perhaps the refrain of a mostly-Spanish song called "Cantar," then you probably have a child in the SRV Chorus. "The Picnic of the World" and "Cantar" could probably be considered the greatest hits of this fall's chorus experience, and for good reason! They are extremely sing-able and memorable, and due to the fact that one has a global focus and the other is largely in Spanish, these songs fit right in with the culture study in which the whole school is currently engaged. But this is just a part of what you should know about the SRV Chorus.
Are you aware that this year the chorus is for 2nd–6th graders? Although in previous years 1st graders were included in the group, it became apparent that the experience wasn't what it should have been for the chorus' youngest members because of the difficulty of the reading involved. This year's group is much more cohesive because everyone is more equally able to participate.
The SRV Chorus will be accepting new singers when school starts back after winter break. For those children who have been feeling that they are missing out on something fun on Wednesdays during Quiet Time–and quite a few children and parents have asked me about this–the winter/spring session is the next opportunity to join. If your child is one of those interested singers, please tell him or her to come to the first chorus practice in January.
This year's first SRV Chorus performance will be heard at the December 9th Winter Music Assembly at 10:30 a.m. in Grace. Please feel free to come hear some great music and see for yourself one of the reasons why singing is so much fun at SRV!
