Spring Conference

What have we learned?

Friday, April 22, 2005
8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Symposium participants will reassemble to celebrate the learning circle participants' six-month journeys and share in their learning, thoughts and wonderings. Whether your learning circle has moved mountains or barely moved, we want to hear about it! This will be a very symposium-friendly activity – no stress allowed.

Eleanor Duckworth, educator, former student of Jean Piaget's and author of "The Having of Wonderful Ideas" and Other Essays on Teaching and Leaning will be our guide through Friday's events, helping us reflect on our Learning Circle work and our Spring Descriptive Reviews.

The afternoon session will include a round of Descriptive Reviews. This process was pioneered by Pat Carini, our keynote speaker in the fall, and practiced by symposium participants in the fall.

In the evening, participants will be given information about fun things to do in and around the Philadelphia area. Theatre, restaurants, and more will be included.

Where do we go from here?

Saturday, April 23, 2005
8:00 am - 3:00 pm

Roland Barth, consultant to schools, former school principal and faculty member of Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, will inspire you to continue your efforts in support of progressive education. In his address, Mr. Barth, an author of many articles and books including Improving Schools from Within and Learning by Heart encourages us to "think otherwise" about helping progressive education progress through the 21st century.

Please note a slight change in the Spring program: In order to accommodate participants who will be celebrating Passover, we will be ending Saturday's portion earlier than planned. Instead of closing at 4:30, we will end at 3:00 pm. We have not shortened any portion of Mr. Barth's time.
