Dear Parents,

As some of you know, we have a website for the school which includes information for prospective parents, other teachers interested in progressive education, SRV alumnae and our own parent community. The site has links to help parents find school cancellations, the calendar of events and classroom activities. The address is www.theschoolinrosevalley.org. (You might want to bookmark the site or make it your own home page.) It is important to realize the site is an evolving entity and we welcome your comments and suggestions.

One of the areas we are most excited about is sharing the neat things that happen in our classrooms. We envision the classroom sites as not only important opportunities for the parents to see what goes on in their children’s days, but also for the students themselves. Older students can use their classroom website for sharing research information, publishing their work, and highlighting for others what is being taught in their rooms. Younger students can use the class websites to help them reflect by creating stories or summaries of projects or activities for the web pages. Looking at those web pages at home with family members reinforces learning.

We realize some parents are concerned about the school using photographs of their children on the website. We, too, want to do everything we can to ensure their safety. For their protection, we have adopted the enclosed guidelines.

Please read the guidelines carefully. There is a place on the form for you to either give permission for your child’s picture to be used under our guidelines or not. Please check the appropriate box.

To ensure that you have received this letter, understand the options and have made an informed choice, we are asking that all families sign and return this form as soon as possible.

Guidelines for The School in Rose Valley's Web Site

• The photographs of children will be posted on the website only if their parents or guardians have given their consent on the form below.
• No student's last name or last initial will be used anywhere on the website.
• If there is ever a photograph of one child alone, the child’s first name will not be used in direct relation to that photograph. (That is, there will never be a photograph of a child on its own web page, or a photograph of one child and that child's name under the photograph. There may be a picture of one child and many quotes from other children on the page, including a quote by that child, not near the picture.)
• No students' images will be posted to a site other than one hosted by SRV without the specific prior permission of the administration and the students' parents or guardians. In such a case, the students' last names will not be used, and their first names will never be directly related to their images.
• All email addresses on the website will belong to a staff member, never a student.
• Student biographical information will NEVER be given out on the website by the students or the staff.
